Wind Power Cost
What is wind power? How can wind power benefit me?
How much does wind power cost? If you have ever considered
using wind power in your home these questions have come up.
After reading this article you will understand all there is to
know about wind power. You may still want to do some more
research for your own benefit. Wind power is gaining popularity
because of the cost of local utilities. Every time you turn
around there is an increase in your electric or gas bill.
Everyone is looking for a cheaper method of saving money on
their monthly utilities.
First of all lets explain with wind power is and how it
works. Wind power is the transformation of energy from wind
into electricity. You ask how that is possible and how can that
work. Well it works quiet simply. This process only works with
the use of wind turbines. Wind turbines are machines that
rotate and allows for the transformation of kinetic energy from
wind into electricity. When you think of this process just
think about a windmill and how it works. Windmills have been
around since the beginning of time.
The first windmill was known to have been
invented by the Persians. Then in the 19th Century the
Americans replicated the idea and for the sake of the
Persians they called it the Persian windmill. Wind power
was first used during 800 B.C. and the machine was a sail
boat. The sailors understood how the wind worked against
the sails which pushed the boat forward. What a great
invention because it allowed for possible transportation
over the seas. When the Persians produced the first
windmill their main intentions was to use it to pump
water. But when the Americans constructed their first
windmill they used it for grinding grain and pumping
water. This cut the need for someone to perform the task
because the windmill did it.
Commercial wind turbines where first installed during the
80’s. Energy from wind power began to decrease slowly but over
the years has decreased substantially because of the production
of huge turbine generators, towers, and rotor lengths.
Manufacturing companies have also begun to utilize energy from
wind power which has drastically helped with the conservation
of electricity. These large developments have allowed for
increased capture of wind especially during lower wind speed.
Normally wind speeds need to be within seven to ten miles per
hour.
Statistics show that costs of electricity that comes from
wind power systems has dropped eighty percent plus over the
last twenty years. After the large turbine generators, towers,
and rotor lengths were developed in the 80’s the cost is thirty
cents per each kilowatt-hour. Prices continue to drop because
larger plants are being constructed and more advanced
technology in wind power is being introduced. There is other
reason why wind power should be used instead of local
utilities. It is eco friendly and does not produce toxins that
damage the Earth’s atmosphere as with electricity and gas.
