Solar energy or power is one of the fast growing sources of renewable energy in the world
today. This eco- friendly energy form is in huge demand these days as more and more people are going for solar
power devices and systems for their offices as well as their homes.
Solar power is considered to be a green form of renewable energy that is helping to make the Earth less
dependent on fossil fuels and also on other types of polluting energy. Also, solar energy is the cheapest among the
available sources of renewable energy and the importance of solar energy is slowly catching up and hence we see
more people installing the solar power systems in their homes after knowing the advantages of the solar power.
 Solar energy is the power derived from the sun’s rays that is converted to
produce energy. This energy is created by the solar panels, which are a collection of solar cells that is
united to form sheets. The solar cells in the solar panel absorb the sunlight and the electro magnetic
radiation from the sun is converted into energy that can be used in homes and other buildings. The common uses
of the solar energy in homes are as a means of electrical power or used to heat up the room during winter.
There is intense amount of power that comes from the sun during daytime and it is so intense that the electro
magnetic energy produced in a day can be used to power the entire world for 27 years.
 The solar panels are made up of small squares called photovoltaic cells. A
collection of these solar cells forms the solar panel and a collection of the solar panels makes up a solar
array.
The size of the solar array depends upon the amount of electricity that the homeowner decides for his or her
home. The technology that the solar panel employs is called the photovoltaic technology.
The photovoltaic cells are usually made with crystalline silicon that are arranged together to form the solar
array which is placed inside a glass cover. When sunlight hits these solar cells, a chemical reaction takes place
and electrons are emitted which are collected by the tiny wires and hence creates a direct current of electricity.
This current is then sent to an inverter which converts the stored electric current into usable electricity.
Solar panels are the best source that can generate solar energy that can bring power basically to the entire
home or to the rooms specified by the homeowner. The solar panels are usually erected on the top of any home’s roof
or sometimes on the side of the hill which is a part of the home’s property, better explained, in a place where the
sunlight’s presence is the strongest. Solar panels are found to work at their best in places or areas where
greatest amount of sun can be absorbed for major part of the day. Solar panels will not work in places where there
is cloud cover all round the year and in shady regions.
The use of solar panels in one’s residence has been in existence for years now and hence there is a lot of
understanding among people of how the residential solar panels can be utilized to the maximum. Most of the homes
use solar panels either to light up their homes or heat a pool or a water heater. The size of the array of solar
panels is depended on the amount of workload that one intends to give to the solar panels, which simply means,
greater the workload larger will be the size of the solar panels.
 Most of the states and the federal departments in the U.S offer discounts on
property taxes as well as provide incentives to the homeowners wishing to install and purchase a solar panel
system in their homes. If the homeowner decided that his entire home can be lit up with these solar panels,
the government will provide him with another incentive that he no longer needs to be connected to the “grid”
or have to purchase electricity to power his home. But the biggest incentive that the homeowner will derive
from installing solar panels in his home, will be that he will not be needed to pay those huge alarming
electricity bills in the future and that he will be able to generate power in his home even during
adverse times of black out or a power cut.
Choosing to install a solar power panel in his home is the wisest decision than nay homeowner will make and he
will part of the strive that the whole world is undergoing to make this world and its surroundings greener, cleaner
and a safe place for people to live in without the hazards of poisonous gases and pollution filled surroundings.
Also the potential or the prospect of huge savings on the energy costs and the electricity bills is driving more
and more people all over the world to turn to solar energy as the most preferred renewable source of energy to
light up their homes and offices.
