Sun is the natural phenomenon upon which most of the energy seen across the universe is dependent on. The sun’s power comes to the Earth as heat and light. Solar power is considered to be the basis of all life that is present on this Earth. So, as long as the sun lasts in this universe, life will also be in existence.

Right from about thousands of years ago, people use the heat of the sun to warm their dwellings. Nowadays, people use the heat and the rays of the sun to warm their bodies after applying suntan lotion on their bodies and relaxing under the sun in the beaches. 

But generating solar electricity from the light and heat of the sun is a fairly new concept that is fast developing and hence more and more people are now using or generating power for their homes using the sun’s rays that fall on the solar power systems.

Going for a solar power system is a rage these days and also with the sophisticated techniques and devices available, the solar power costs has considerably reduced than before and this is enabling more and more people to go  for the solar energy to light their homes and offices. Now, the dream of cutting the electricity company supply lines and replacing them with solar cells that power the homes is a really possible for some people. With prices dropping due to manufacturing improvements and material development, this dream will never be too distant in the near future. The cost of the photovoltaic cells or the solar cells has been dropping considerably and their use for providing solar power is growing at a huge pace.

There is now a considerable demand for the solar power systems and the companies manufacturing are working round the clock to keep with the pace of its demand in the market. At present the cost of the solar power is more expensive than any other systems available to produce electricity. It is advantageous these days to install solar panel system in one’s home due to the various subsidies and incentives that the government pays for every home that is powered by or utilizing the power generated by solar energy. Also it is seen all throughout the United States that the federal government, most states and now even cities are giving away huge money to people to promoter the use of solar energy and for people to go for solar.

The federal government has gone to the extent of deducting a sum of $2,000 from the tax that one has to pay them at the end of the year. Most of the states offer tax rebates to the homeowners who intend to purchase a new solar power system. Apart from this, the various states have also allowed the homeowner the advantage of net metering laws. Net metering is a process wherein the homeowner can sell the solar electricity to the local utility when he is not using it or if the power generated through the solar energy is more than what is needed for his entire home. Nothing better can please a homeowner than seeing his own utility meter run backwards during the day. With  these tax rebates, tax credits, property tax discount and selling power to  the utility, the cost for installing a solar powered system in many homes will be reducing considerably and be more affordable.

Apart from the various reductions in money from the federal governments and the states, the mortgage industry is also putting their fingers in this lucrative market by providing loans for purchaser and installation of the solar power system. The best solar loan that is doing rounds in the market now is the energy efficient mortgage, more commonly referred to as EEM. This is also an initiative from the government to spruce up the lenders to provide loans for people promoting the use of the solar power as an energy source. The EEM loan is one that allows the homeowner to include the costs of the solar improvements with the mortgage loan. These improvements can cost upto 15% of the total value of one’s home. This will help one to install the solar power systems in his home without paying the full amount upfront and can easily repay this loan to the mortgagers by saving the amount he used to settle for the electricity bill earlier when the solar system was not available.

Also there are many solar energy grants available to both private homeowners and businesses which utilize solar energy. Even if people are not able to get the desired grant from the government, they can still upgrade to solar power by paying the initial erection costs, but can reap huge benefits in the long run as they will not be required to pay for the otherwise alarming electricity bills for lifelong and it is estimated that with the increase in fuel and gas prices, the charges one has to pay for the electricity will be skyrocketing every year to dizzy rates. But people with solar powered systems installed in  their homes need not worry about the rise in  the electricity bills and can have a piece of mind knowing that they will not need to pay the electricity bills for many years.
