Solar Energy – How can we use
it?
Almost everyone who have ever watched television, listened
to the radio, or surfed the internet have more than likely
stumbled across the term solar energy at least once. So what
exactly is solar energy? How can we use solar energy? What are
the benefits of solar energy opposed to fossil fuels? What is
needed for a solar energy system to be effective in your
particular system? After reading this article you should be
able to understand solar energy, how it can be used, who is
capable of using it, the benefits, and the disadvantages of
solar energy.
Solar energy has become more and more popular throughout the
years. So what can we actually use solar energy for? Solar
energy is capable of providing electricity to any device or
appliance that fossil fuels can. Basically, solar energy can
power anything that requires electricity. Solar energy is often
using in residential settings, industrial settings, and even
commercial settings. One of the oldest forms of solar energy is
the use of solar powered calculators. At the time of their
invention, such calculators required very little energy. The
small solar energy cells embedded on the calculator was able to
provide sufficient energy to able to power the calculator.
Throughout the years, solar energy has adapted and
transformed making it sufficient energy source for a variety of
different things. Solar energy is so popular because it is free
to operate and doesn’t pollute the air like fossil fuel does.
While the initial cost of a solar energy system can be
extremely expensive you will no longer be required to pay an
electric bill if your system is capable of delivering you with
all the energy that you need. Some people prefer to keep their
fossil fuel electrical system anyways just to be used for
backup. These people still see a major drop in the price of
their electricity bill.
Some locations are not suitable for solar energy. If you
live in an area that receives very little sunlight than a solar
energy system is not a good idea for you. If you live in an
area such as this and insist on installing a solar energy
system it is advised to keep your fossil fuel system incase
your solar system isn’t capable of getting enough sunlight to
power your home all day long. Dye sensitized panels are
considered the cheapest because of the low cost material they
are made from. If you are looking for something cheap then you
are looking for dye sensitized panels. You should be able to
install your own system if you go with these types of
panels.
So what can I accomplish by using solar energy? Solar energy
can be used to provide power to any appliance in your home.
Solar energy can also heat the water in your home or the water
in your pool by using solar thermal collectors. There are major
types of solar panels you can select from including those that
are used to collect energy to be used for electricity and those
used to collect energy to be used to heat water and other
fluids. You can use solar energy to power your television,
washer, dryer, stove, your lights and even your computer.
Solar energy is also often used in an industrial
environment. Solar energy is often used for road traffic
warning signals. It is also to power aircraft warning lights,
navigation buoys, and even lighthouses. Solar energy is very
reliable and requires little to no maintenance which is why it
is often used in locates that are hard to get to.
