Types of Solar
Batteries
At present, there are two different types of deep-cycle
batteries that are commonly available in the market and are
used in most of the solar appliances. These include the
lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries. Both these batteries
differ from each other in terms of efficiency and performance.
Some of these differences include:
• Lead acid batteries are less expensive than Nickel-Cadmium
batteries.
• On the contrary, lead-acid batteries have a lower performance
and do not last long.
• Also, it is possible to completely use the entire energy
stored inside a Nickel-Cadmium battery and then recharge it
again to full capacity. The same is not possible with a
lead-acid battery because this procedure can damage the life of
the battery.
Next aspect to consider is how to buy a good solar battery.
A fact that one should remember is that it is very much
important to select a battery that is or right size, type and
has right number of batteries. so as to maximize the life of
the batteries. In order to determine the number of batteries
required inside a battery system, some of the factors that one
must consider include:
• The number of appliances that are needed to be connected
to the battery system
• The number of days the battery need to supply power without
getting discharged completely
• The temperature of the area where the battery system will be
stored
• One must also consider the size the charging system and most
importantly, the amount of money one intends to spend.
A right kind of solar-powered battery is extremely essential
so as to ensure that the solar power system performs properly.
And finally, one should remember to do a bit of research and
shop around so as to get the system at the right price.
