The most important function of the sun is to produce renewable and clean energy, which is known as the solar energy. Solar energy is found to exist in one form of the other for thousand of years. There is a general belief among researchers that the sun produces enough solar energy in one day to power the entire energy requirements of the whole world for a year. Also, solar energy will be in existence as long as the sun is present.

This has led many people to shift their attention to solar power for their homes and offices. Solar power is the most viable form of renewable energy available and it can be used in several ways to lighten up your office or house. The technologies and the systems that support the solar power are becoming smaller, more compact and better looking than those that were first created and used.  In fact the advantages of solar power is enormous that people are willing to spend more on  the installation of home solar powered system wherein  they can later be benefited by the low electricity costs that was earlier a huge burden for them.

Solar power works on the basic principle of conversion of free sunlight into a usable energy. This process involves photovoltaic cell tiles or panels to capture the energy emitted by the sun; here the energy that the sun emits is the solar energy. The solar panels or the photovoltaic tiles consist of positive and negative silicone materials that react to the energy delivered by the sun. As the sun light falls on these photovoltaic cells, the negatively charged ions are sliced off by the energy of the sun. This creates a magnetic field, i.e; the heat energy of the sun on reaction with the solar panel cells are converted into magnetic energy, which is allowed to be captured in small wires, where the magnetic energy is transformed into electric current. The wires are connected to the inverter which inturn converts this energy into usable power energy.

The solar power has brought many a smile to the drooping faces of many homeowners who had a tough time arranging for resources to pay their huge electricity bills. It has been evident from the reduction of electricity bills that solar power and solar powered home products have brought the much needed relief to many a homeowner. People feel that there is no need to pay for outrageous electricity bills when they can create their own electricity at their homes. There are a lot of benefits of solar energy and the major one is the savings one can make due to the reduction in consumption of outsourced electricity. The other benefits are as follows:

Solar power is totally environment friendly, clean and renewable and is non pollutant. Solar power systems require very less or nil maintenance. Hence, one does not need to worry about huge maintenance costs, adding extra fuels etc.

Only the initial cost of the solar power panels and its installation is expensive. But in the long run people will save a lot of money as the energy to run the appliances is derived from the sun, which is free.

Power cuts and black outs will be a thing of the past while using solar power systems. By using solar energy or power, one will feel less dependent on both centralized and foreign sources of energy.

The outdoor solar systems also will reduce a lot on its installation costs apart from savings from the huge electricity bills, due to the lack of wiring that is needed to install these systems and lighting fixtures. 

Solar power cells are totally silent as they extract energy from the sun without even making a peep. Also it is totally non pollutant and this is the major advantage that the solar power has over oil.

In between all these advantages, there are a few disadvantages of the solar power and its systems. The cost of the solar panels and its systems are very expensive, but on the long run it will save the homeowner a lot of money as he will not need to pay for the energy that drives the solar cells to produce light because it is a natural source of energy. Another disadvantage is that solar power systems will not work at night or on stormy or cloudy days. But one can always count on the sun to be there the very next day, providing people with more energy and light. As long as there is presence of sun, one can be rest assured that there will also be solar power.
